MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery’s downtown entertainment district is still open, but with new rules in place.
As of Tuesday, the open container ordinance has been suspended, meaning residents and visitors may no longer carry alcoholic beverages throughout the district.
City leaders voted unanimously Tuesday night to suspend the ordinance following the tragic events on Saturday, Oct.4.
“Montgomery is a safe city, but the events of last weekend have led us to take a closer look at our open container ordinance,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “We owe it to our residents and visitors to ensure that our entertainment districts remain secure and vibrant.
